Super Saturday

Last year our district lost 2.2 million dollars due to students being absent from school; the state of California lost 1.4 billion.  With California ranking as one of the lowest states in the nation for per pupil funding, Super Saturday gives our students an opportunity to recover daily attendance so we can better fund our student programs.

Super Saturday is created to enhance, but not replace, the actual direct instruction a teacher provides in their normal classroom experience.  The hope for Super Saturday is to provide students with an engaging, enriching, and collaborative learning experience utilizing science, the arts, mathematics, and “21st century” skills.  Each session, students will be introduced to a combination of cross-curricular activities that promote the “7 Habits of Highly Effective Students”, habits that can help students with better academic and life-skills:

  • Habit 1: BE PROACTIVE - Take responsibility for your life.

  • Habit 2: BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND - Define your mission and goals in life.

  • Habit 3: PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST - Prioritize, and do the most important things first.

  • Habit 4: THINK WIN-WIN - Seeks mutual benefits and is based on mutual respect in all interactions.

  • Habit 5: SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD - Listen with the intent to understand others, rather than with the intent to reply to begin true communication and relationship building.

  • Habit 6: SYNERGIZE - Work together to achieve more

  • Habit 7: SHARPEN THE SAW - Keep yourself at your sharpest by maintaining balance in your life: physical, social, emotional, and mental.

The teachers have worked hard to make sure this will be an enjoyable, engaging experience.  Although many students want to participate in this activity, only students who have a FULL DAY absence may attend.  This event makes “dollars and sense” for our school; so, please fill out the permission slip on the back of this sheet and return it to the office at your earliest opportunity.

Thank you for your support,

Mr. Twamley, Super Saturday Coordinator – Kraemer Middle School-
