SERVE is an academic support group designed to assist students to work towards successful completion of the 8th grade. Resources will be provided that promote success both academically and socially. SERVE is based on the premise that certain students can benefit from a specialized method that will encourage and challenge them to respond to the needs that exist in their lives. The areas of need and support that students require have been identified as the following:

Social
Development of accountability and responsibility will be an important facet of the class dynamic. Communication and listening skills will be addressed to assist in increasing confidence in handling school and life situations. Certain activities will require students to interact as a group in order for them to meet their goals and objectives.

Emotional
To help students work toward emotional growth and maturity, critical thinking skills will be intergraded into topics that will consist of everyday life experiences.

Recreational
We will have activities undertaken for the pleasure or satisfaction which it gives to the individual. This will let them not only participate in various activities, but also to find positive interactions with peers that may have different likes and dislikes.

Vocation
Allow students to learn about different jobs. This gives the students the opportunity to branch out into a world they may have never heard of before.

Education
The current education program offered at Kraemer Middle School will be supported and supplemented by:
· A weekly progress report signed and commented by teachers.· Three class periods throughout the week to review and complete all homework assigned from their core classes.
· Homework support by the SERVE teacher, class peers, and when available, Kraemer staff.
· Encouraging and guiding students toward assuming responsibility, control and accountability for their behavior.
· Establishing and maintaining open communication lines with teachers, counselors, administrators and parents.

Kraemer is unique in that it is the only middle school in PYLUSD with a functional SDC classroom. In our class, we work on functional life skills with students, such as money skills, cooking, sight word reading, and many other skills necessary for our students to live as independently as possible as future adults. For Thanksgiving, we made a feast, including a turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and all the fixing's. We have a classroom fish tank which helps the students learn responsibility and how to care for living creatures. Mainly, we have fun while we learn!
